With three “big” ships in the Galapagos, Metropolitan Touring is one of the main players, sailing the Santa Cruz II with 90 passengers, the La Pinta with 48 and the Isabella II with 40.
The company has adjusted itineraries on the La Pinta for 2017, according to the 2017 Expedition Cruise Market Report.
“They are designed to maximize the contact we have with wildlife,” Francisco Dousdebes, product manager, said. The ship now sails a 14-day cycle of one six- and two four-night cruises. “The biggest advantage,” he continued, “is that all three of these programs depart on different days of the week. It gives passengers more options.
“It’s a big advantage to have a short four-night program available,” Dousdebes added, noting the shorter cruises are often packaged with other tours or hotel stays at the company’s Ecuador property.
