Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) has announced that the Norwegian Joy has arrived at its homeport of Shanghai, after making maiden calls in Singapore, Qindao, Shenzen and Hong Kong.
“Norwegian is extremely proud to welcome the newest addition to our fleet, the Joy, to her home port of Shanghai,” said David Herrera, president of NCLH China. “The Norwegian Joy’s arrival demonstrates our commitment to the Chinese cruise market. She was custom-built with Chinese cruise guests in mind.”
Designed to appeal to the modern Chinese family, the Joy features what the cruise line calls the first race track at sea in addition to virtual reality experiences, international dining options, and staterooms designed for multigenerational families traveling together.
On a preview voyage, Norwegian welcomed more than 1,700 VIP members and guests of Alibaba Group (Alibaba), the world’s largest online and mobile commerce company.
The Joy’s christening ceremony is slated to take place June 27 in Shanghai with the so-called king of Chinese pop Wang Leehom.
Year-round cruises from Shanghai start on June 28 with a season of sailings from Tianjin from August 26 to September 15.
