Covering multiple cruise destinations highlighted by Palma, Ibiza and Mahon, the Balearic Islands are expecting more than 2 million cruise passengers this year, up about 4 percent from 2016.
A spokesperson told Cruise Industry News that the focus is on building the winter season, with 40 percent port discount packages available for cruise ships in Palma and Ibiza. Smaller destinations like Mahon and Alcudia have the discount package year-round.
“The growth is coming more in the winter now,” the spokesperson said. “Some cruise lines are coming to Palma weekly in the winter.”
Helping Palma has been a new terminal that measures some 10,000 square-meters, as well an extension of the quay.
