While the Caribbean dominates ship deployment for most of the major North American cruise brands, Princess Cruises’ largest passenger capacity deployment is in the Asia/Pacific region and Holland America Line in Alaska, according to the 2017-2018 Cruise Industry News Annual Report.
This year, Princess will have an estimated 24.1 percent of its capacity in Asia/Pacific, up from 17.9 percent last year and 5.2 percent five years ago. At the same time, Princess’ Alaska and Europe capacities remains flat year-over-year, while its Caribbean deployment is down to 14.2 percent from a high of 27.5 percent five years ago.
Holland America will have record capacity in Alaska in 2017, 29.2 percent of its total passenger capacity, up from 28.1 percent last year. Caribbean capacity remains in line with previous years, while Europe is down.
Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises have more capacity in the Caribbean this year, while Norwegian sees a dip, while having a build-up in Europe.
