According to independent market research in the 2017-2018 Cruise Industry News Annual Report, Viking Ocean Cruises will become largest small-ship cruise brand by 2020.
In the luxury segment, however, Viking will just overtake Silversea in 2017 as its fourth ship, the Viking Sun, will add berths and capacity when the vessel is delivered later this year.
Silversea is also on the growth trek, adding the Silver Muse into its fleet in May, set for her inaugural season in the Mediterranean, and is projected to carry just about a percentage point less passengers than Viking Ocean Cruises.
Regent is the third biggest luxury cruise line by capacity for 2017, realizing year-round service of the new 750-passenger Regent Seven Seas Explorer.
In all, the luxury segment of cruise market is set to grow by 16 percent in terms of berths in 2017, and 13.7 percent in capacity, according to the 2017-2018 Cruise Industry News Annual Report.
