Is the expedition cruise ship market booming? It would appear hopes are high, at least according to orders from a number of existing cruise lines and one new market entrant placed since last March.
These 12 orders include Hurtigruten (two ships), Oceanwide (one ship), a new market entrant (one ship), Hapag-Lloyd (two ships), Ponant (four ships) and Crystal (three ships).
The 2017-2018 Cruise Industry News Annual Report will feature updated statistics on the expedition market and growth projections through 2025.
The ordering frenzy started last March and appears to be continuing with the latest news that Vard had snagged yet another ship order, this time to an undisclosed buyer. Industry sources expect more to follow.

The average passenger capacity is 266 guests, pulled up by Hurtigruten’s twin 600-passenger ship order, with an option for two more.
There is also Scenic, which takes delivery of the Scenic Eclipse next summer, ordered in late 2015.
