Carnival Ships Aid in Rescue off Australia

Two of Carnival Australia’s vessels, the Carnival Spirit and Pacific Pearl were asked to sail to the aid of a disabled yacht with six people on board off Australia’s east coast 280 nautical miles north east of Sydney, according to a statement.

It is the second time in little more than a week that Carnival Australia ships have been involved in marine rescues at sea. Last week the locally based Sun Princess rescued five people adrift in a disabled vessel off Vanuatu.

The Pacific Pearl was released from the marine rescue operation by Australian marine search and rescue authorities. The Carnival Spirit was been asked to stand by the disabled craft pending the arrival of further assistance.

Two female crew members from the yacht were expected to receive medical assistance onboard the Carnival Spirit. The Carnival Spirit has also provided emergency supplies including fuel.

In last week’s operation the five people rescued by Sun Princess were family members of a senior Vanuatu Government minister who expressed his thanks for the help provided.
