Columbus Cruise Center: 6 Inaugural Calls So Far In 2016

The Silver Wind called on July 1 and marked the half-way point of 2016 for the city of Wismar, Germany and the Columbus Cruise Center.

Nothing the tagline “Small but Mighty,” Wismar has had a strong year of small-ship calls, including six inaugural visits.

“Our citizens and the town support the ship calls. This has led to an exceptionally high satisfaction rating from cruise lines and their passengers” said Veit Huerdler, managing director, Columbus Cruise Center.

Of note, Wismar ranked in second among Baltic ports from Fred. Olsen Cruise Line in passenger ratings.

“This is especially worth mentioning as Baltic cruises sail to big ports, which are completely different,” said Huerdler.  “Apart from the wonderful old town itself as an experience, guests feel welcomed by the citizens here.”

This coming winter, the port will invest three million euro in its cruise berth, with the construction of a small terminal building, a fixed ISPS border and improvements in fresh water supply and mooring capabilities.
