Costa Set To Be Largest Brand in Asia

Royal Caribbean International is the largest operator in terms of capacity in the Asia/Pacific markets, including China in 2016, according to the 2016-2017 Cruise Industry News Annual Report, but that may be changing as Costa is on a growth trek in ASia.

Royal Caribbean has an estimated marketwide capacity of more than 925,000 passengers, including more than 800,000 dedicated to China, while Costa Cruises has an estimated marketwide capacity of nearly 800,000 of which about 725,000 are dedicated to the Chinese market.

With two newbuilds dedicated to the Asia/Pacific, by 2021 Costa will have the most capacity in the region with nearly 1.4 million, and Royal Caribbean slightly more than 1 million, based on current and known future deployment.

Genting, which has two brands in the region, will have a total passenger capacity of 1.2 million, once the new ships for its Dream Cruises brand enter service later this year and next year.
