The transfer of the Empress of the Seas back to Royal Caribbean International continues to take longer than expected as the company cancelled another six sailings, through May 23.

The ship, which recently sailed for Pullmantur, was set to re-join the Royal Caribbean fleet in late March offering short cruises from Miami.

Royal Caribbean said in a statement that instead of repairing galleys, they were completely rebuilding them at a reported cost of $10 million, and that is the cause of the delay.

Empress sailed from South America was drydocked in Cadiz, and is now at Grand Bahama Shipyard.

The cancelled cruises are a relatively minor hit to Royal Caribbean International’s 2016 capacity numbers. At the same time, the company has been busy launching the Ovation and Harmony of the Seas in Europe.
