The 2019 Cruise Ship Orderbook is on course to set a new record, according to the 2016-2017 Cruise Industry News Annual Report, as the global cruise business will introduce more berths than ever in 2019, with rumors of more being added in the near future.
Based on announced ship orders, the cruise industry will add 12 new ships in 2019, but the average size is bigger than ever, at 3,362 passengers.
The biggest of the ships on order for 2019 are a pair of 5,200-passenger ships for AIDA and Costa, while the smallest are two 180-passenger vessels for Ponant. Over 40,000 new berths will be introduced in 2019.
By comparison, the industry introduced just over 33,500 berths in 2010, and in 2001 added about 30,000 berths.
