Fremantle: Western Australia’s Anchor Point

The Pacific Eden will debut in Western Australia this coming season, homeporting from Fremantle (Perth) and joining first-time visitors like the Legend and Explorer of the Seas, said Thor Elliot, trade development manager for Fremantle Ports.

The cosmopolitan city, which is home to an attractive demographic of high earners, is also looking forward to 2016-2017, which is shaping up well with the arrival of the Ovation of the Seas, which is making Fremantle its first stop in Australia.

“When cruise lines request changes, we discuss the needs of the vessel and the needs of the port to ensure that vessel operations are successful and that the passenger and crew experience in Fremantle is seamless,” said Elliot. “Our key to success is open communication with all parties prior, during and after the event.”

The port has its eye on bigger ships and accommodating them.

“Having the Ovation do a turnaround in Fremantle with 5,000 passengers will be a challenge,” added Elliot. “The expectations will be to move these passengers as seamlessly as possible. Even when you have the biggest terminal, space and the best utilization of space is paramount. Everything from the car park design, availability of taxis, coaches, border control requirements and baggage hall areas need to be carefully planned.  Pre-planning with all the stakeholders will be the key.”
