Puerto Rico is set to host a new single-day passenger record with 17,847 cruise passengers expected on February 25, according to the Tourism Company of Puerto Rico.
Ships in port include the Quantum, Disney Fantasy, MSC Divina, Carnival Glory, the Eurodam and the Nieuw Amsterdam.
This breaks the old records which saw 16,712 passengers on January 8, and 16,395 on February 4, both occasions also coming in 2015.
“These passengers represented an economic impact of about two million dollars,” said Muñiz Martínez, deputy executive direct of the Tourism Company of Puerto Rico. “Our efforts to promote the island as a cruise destination, continue to make Puerto Rico the five-star destination of choice in the region,”
Meanwhile, the executive director of the Port Authority, Colberg Ingrid Rodriguez said: “The record reached cruise passengers in the Port of San Juan reflects the results we are doing to boost economic development through ports maritime Country. This effort to enhance our first seaport has been fostered by the incentives we have granted to attract cruise in low season; Pan improvements to Pier I, which made possible the arrival of Disney cruises, and expansion of Pier 3, which helped attract the Quantum of the Seas.”
