Further consolidation could be coming in the cruise-ship building business, as sources in Italy told Cruise Industry News that Fincantieri may be close to a deal to buy STX France.
The Saint Nazaire yard is owned partially by the French government with the majority shareholder being Korea-based STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Co., which recently unloaded its stake in STX Finland to Meyer Werft.
On the delivery of the Costa Diadema, Fincantieri is also said to be close to a new deal to deliver a 170,000-ton megaship to the Costa brand in 2019.
