TUI Cruises Posts Strong First Half Performance

TUI’s First Half-Year 2013/14 financial filing showed the TUI Cruises brand continuing to strengthen as average daily rates year-over-year rose from 135 euro to 144 euro, and passenger cruise days were relatively flat at 696,400 compared to 686,600.

Occupancy rose year-over-year to 102 percent from 100.1 percent.

The occupancy improvement was cited to be from the high-load factor from itineraries in the Canaries and the Caribbean.

TUI, also posting for Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, showed more challenging conditions for that brand.

Hapag-Lloyd posted 66.5 percent occupancy down from 69.6 percent, while passenger cruise days were up due to added capacity from the Europa 2. Average daily rates trended up, to 420 euro from 417 euro.

The brand has launched new international marketing activities with the Europa 2 and the Hanseatic, while the Europa and Bremen will be offered only in German-speaking markets in the future.
