Diadema to be Christened in Genoa

  • May 9, 2014

The christening event of Costa Diadema will be held in Genoa on 7 November 2014.

Genoa, where Costa Cruises was founded and has its headquarters, will host an event involving institutions and citizens, and Costa Diadema guests, who will have the tremendous and uncommon opportunity to book their participation to the ceremony and matching it with the inaugural cruise, that will depart from Trieste on November 1, or the first inaugural cruise, departing from Savona on November 8.

The christening event of the Costa Diadema is a confirmation of Costa’s attachment to Genoa city, where the company is expanding its presence by opening new offices for about 250 employees  in Piazza Piccapietra, next door to the present headquarters of Costa Crociere. The new offices will be open for business in summer 2014.

Costa Diadema is being built at Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera (Venice); she will be delivered on October 30, 2014. The debut of the flagship will last one entire month, including the inaugural cruise on November 1, the christening event on November 7 and 3 inaugural cruises on November 8, 15 and 22.

The “vernissage cruise”  will start on November 1 from Trieste, where the ship will stay until 1 pm the following day; then the ship will call on the at Dubrovnik, Corfù, Malta, Naples, to then end in Genoa on November 7, for the Christening event.

After the vernissage, from November 8, Costa Diadema will depart for three 7-day inaugural cruises in the western Mediterranean Sea, with stopovers at Marseille, Barcelona and Savona.
They will offer the chance of visiting in a single cruise Florence and Naples, two of the most popular Italian cities. The itinerary include calls at Savona, Marseille; Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Naples, La Spezia and Savona.

From November 29 and for the rest of the 2014/15 Winter season, the new flagship will leave from Savona on 7-day cruises in the western Mediterranean Sea, calling every week at Marseille, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Naples and La Spezia.

The new flagship’s interiors will be even cozier, roomier and more modern in terms of facilities and layout of her public areas.  The Costa Diadema will offer large, split-level rooms directly overlooking the sea and conveniently interconnected, thus evoking the atmosphere of a buzzing seaside resort.

Among the many innovations on board are new food and wine tasting treats in the shape of the Vinoteca (wine house), Birreria (beer house), Japanese Teppanyaki, Pizzeria and Gelateria.

There will also be new forms of fun and entertainment on board with the advent of the Country Rock Club, the place to go to hear legendary ‘Classic Rock’ music, and the ‘Star Laser’ room featuring different styles of interactive laser games including the Laser Maze, where you can have fun with your friends.

“Shopaholics” will love the Portobello Market Piazza, the heart of a 1100 m2 area consisting of designer stores and retail outlets.  On the other hand, if you want to enjoy the sun, sea and spectacular ocean vistas, there is an open-air promenade extending over 500 meters.

Meanwhile, the purpose-built Samsara Spa, located on the upper decks, will offer Guests the chance to enjoy the regenerating experience that is the “wellness cruise”.
