Star Cruises has commissioned the construction of a brand new mega vessel to meet the growing demands from the Asian market.

Once completed, the ship, of about 150,000 tons with more than 1,600 cabins, will be the largest ship permanently homeported in Asia. It will also be the largest under the Star Cruises brand. 

The Euro707.2 million (HK$7.465 billion) ship is expected to be delivered in late 2016. The ship can carry up to 4,500 passengers and 2,000 crew members.

The 18-deck luxury cruise ship, approximately 330 meters long, will feature 33 Food and Beverage outlets such as restaurants, bars and cafes specializing in international and Asian cuisines, a state-of-the-art modern theatre, and 19 world-class recreation, health & fitness and MICE facilities such as aqua slides, kids’ waterpark and meeting rooms, etc.

To cater to the preference of Asia cruisers, more than 1,000 square meters of floor area will be designated for retail. With luxury products from all over the world available on this shopping centre on the sea, cruisers can treat themselves to a shopping spree whenever and wherever they want.

The introduction of the new vessel will further expand the company’s footprint and add on to the existing wide array of itineraries, leisure and entertainment options. 

With the new ship, Star Cruises can also take advantage of the port infrastructure developments in Hong Kong and Asia which enable large cruise ships to dock.

Star Cruises has commissioned German shipbuilder Meyer Werft for the project. The shipbuilder has constructed Star Cruises’ first new build SuperStar Leo, which had her inaugural cruise in 1998, and her sister ship SuperStar Virgo, which is based in Singapore currently.
