The Port of San Diego will kick off the 2013-2014 cruise season on Thursday, September 19, 2013, with the arrival of the year’s first ship, the Holland America Zaandam, at B Street Pier.

The 1,432-passenger vessel will be returning from a four-day Pacific Coast cruise which began in Vancouver, B.C.

The port also announced a new cruise schedule app that is available for iPhone and iPad users. The “CruiseSchedule Port of San Diego” app is free from the App Store.

It includes the 2013-2014 cruise season schedule with full voyage itineraries, long term parking options and cruise ship information.

The cruise activity will continue over the weekend. On Sunday, September 22, the North Embarcadero area will be bustling with activity when two more cruise ships arrive.

The Celebrity Solstice, which at 1,041 feet is the largest cruise ship to visit the Port of San Diego, and the Celebrity Millennium, will both be docked at B Street Pier. More than 2,150 passengers will board the Millennium for a cruise that travels to Mexico, South America, through the Panama Canal and Florida.

The Solstice is on a visitation stop to San Diego and next will be heading to Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.

The Port of San Diego’s cruise season runs from September through May. Currently 70 vessels are scheduled to arrive, but that number may change as the season progresses.

Although the number of cruise calls has declined over the past few years, the Port of San Diego said that it is confident that business will rebound.
