Cruise Risk Management Seminar in Saguenay

In partnership with Promotion Saguenay, the CESAM Center (Centre du savoir sur mesure) at the University of Quebec will host a “Staying Afloat” conference on October 30 and 31 in Saguenay.

The event, billed as international, will address the issue of risk management when it comes to cruise ships, ferries and their stakeholders, with over 20 highly qualified speakers already announced.

Two days of training and exercises will be on tap for participants, with the first day being conducted in English and French, and the second day (table-top exercises) just in French.

According to a statement: “Organized to raise awareness and dialogue, the goal is to bring together the different stakeholders with the same challenge: risk management. With Quebec’s nine ports of call and an increase in the number of ships annually, effective risk management has become a reality for the industry, both in terms of public safety as well as in health, tourism and environment.”

Jean Tremblay, Mayor of Saguenay and President of Promotion Saguenay, applauded CESAM’s initiative.

“Saguenay wishes to be a pioneer in safety and ensure that the St. Lawrence destination stands out and becomes an example in the management of risks related to maritime safety. I am proud of our educational institution, which came up with the innovative idea that will take place this fall. I hope it is a success and permits other initiatives that will help us to improve in this area,” he said.
