Sans Souci to Dredge

Sans Souci port has announced an investment to remove debris and sediment from the Isabela and Ozama Rivers.

Sansoucí, Port of Santo Domingo, has signed a Service Agreement with the company Codralux, S.A. – a subsidiary of Jan De Nul to perform the maintenance and capital dredging in the estuary area of the Ozama River.

With an investment of RD$140,000,000 million pesos, the dredging project will cover sanitation around the Port of Santo Domingo: entrance channel, turning basin and access channel to piers, including its critical points as well as an expansion of the Sans Souci Touristic Pier.

Ing. Jaime Castillo, Executive Director of Sans Souci Ports said that this Service Agreement contemplates the cleaning of important areas in the Ozama River over 250,000 square meters of debris and sediment.

“The dredging of the Ozama River is a priority for the Port of Santo Domingo to ensure the proper functioning of our operations and also enables us to receive larger vessels,” said Castillo.

“This dredging project will improve the efficiency in the arrival of commercial vessels to the terminals of the Port of Santo Domingo, facilitating the increase of tourists as well as the imports and exports through this waterway. In addition, it benefits by increasing the competitiveness and operational capacity of the port here located”, he added.

This Service Agreement was signed by Lisandro Macarrulla, representing Sans Souci Ports and Marc Verhaert, Jan De Nul, one of the most recognized companies worldwide in the field of dredging.

Codralux starts working in September using high-tech equipment with Chute and Clamshell techniques.
