Joseph Zammit Tabona has been appointed chairman of Valletta Cruise Port plc. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Zammit Tabona served as Malta’s Commissioner for the United Kingdom and Ireland. Mr Zammit Tabona had served as Chairman of Valletta Cruise Port between 2007 and 2009.
In a career spanning more than forty years, Joseph Zammit Tabona was appointed on a number of boards of private and public companies. He was Chairman of the Malta Stock Exchange, Finance Malta, the Malta Accountancy Board, the Malta Development Corporation, the Malta External Trade Corporation, the Institute for the Promotion of Small Enterprises and that of Malta Enterprise. He also held directorships in Bank of Valletta, the Malta Council for Arts, Science and Technology and HSBC Life Assurance (Malta) Limited. He also served as President of the Malta Federations of Industry. In August this year, Mr Zammit Tabona, was appointed as the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy for Investment Promotion.
Commenting soon after his appointment, Mr. Zammit Tabona said that he is looking forward to his return to Valletta Cruise Port. During his tenure, Mr. Zammit Tabona will be focusing on strengthening Valletta Cruise Port’s relationship with the cruise lines, their local agents as well as other stakeholders, in particular the Malta Tourism Authority. He sees much scope in synergizing the input of all concerned for the benefit of an industry that last year alone, generated €98 million to the local economy. He added that there is much scope for growth and will be fully supporting management in its business development initiatives. With regards to the landside activities, Valletta Cruise Port’s new chairman will continue with the further development of the Company’s property in the port of Valletta and to retain its position as one of Malta’s prime destinations.
