Triumph Returns to Service for Carnival

  • June 13, 2013

Carnival Triumph returned to regular service from its year-round homeport of Galveston, Texas, today, with a sold-out four-day cruise to Mexico. The 102,000-ton, 2,758-passenger ship resumes its year-round schedule of four-day cruises to Cozumel, Mexico and five-day cruises to Cozumel and Progreso, Mexico.

Carnival Triumph was taken out of service following an engine room fire in February. A total of $115 million was spent to repair and upgrade Carnival Triumph, and a number of Fun Ship 2.0 dining and bar innovations also were added.

To celebrate Carnival Triumph’s return, a number of giveaways and special events for guests are being held onboard prior to today’s departure. Celebrity comedian and Carnival’s “curator of comedy” George Lopez will perform two matinee shows in the main show lounge for embarking guests. In addition, guests can participate in a shipboard scavenger hunt or compete in a hamburger-making contest at the newly installed Guy Fieri’s Burger Joint located poolside.

Guests also can participate in photo opportunities with a giant sombrero at BlueIguana Cantina, Kiss the Frog at the RedFrog Rum Bar and High-Five the Iguana at BlueIguana Tequila Bar. There’s a photo op with cheerleaders and trivia at the EA SPORTS Bar and at the Casino Bar Stage there’s a Spin to Win Wheel with Giveaways.

A mariachi band will be roaming and playing around the ship. Carnival’s official mix master, DJ Irie, will be spinning tunes and entertaining the crowd on Lido Deck throughout the day. There will be drink samples offered in the Atrium and the new pharmacy-themed Alchemy bar will be showcasing samples of its specialty drinks concocted by trained mixologists, as well.

Following a comprehensive fleetwide operational review, Carnival Cruise Lines announced in April a $300 million program for its 24-ship fleet that includes installation of the most technologically advanced fire-suppression systems available, installation of a second emergency backup generator on every ship to power toilets, elevators and food service in the unlikely event of loss of main power, and reconfiguration of key systems to ensure redundancy in propulsion and main power supplies.

In addition to those operational enhancements, Carnival Triumph received many of the latest amenities that are part of the line’s Fun Ship 2.0 enhancement initiative.
