The Canada/New England region is quickly moving to cold-ironing infrastructure in a number of ports, according to port bosses at the 2013 Cruise Canada New England Symposium in Boston.

Halifax announced plans earlier this year and plans to be fully operational in 2014.

Furthermore, after a lengthy delay, Brooklyn is confirmed to be in process for a late 2014 turn-on, battling through political issues and also engineering changes from Hurricane Sandy.

Elsewhere in Canada, Sydney, Saint John and Quebec City all confirmed they were looking at cold-ironing – where the Canadian government may subsidize as much as 50 percent of the installation.

The deadline for proposals for Canadian ports is the end of September, with many of them still looking at all the options. A full installation budget was confirmed by multiple ports to be around $10 million.
