Alanya in Turkey is forecasting a 40 percent increase in cruise passengers for 2013 over 2012, when the port hosted 31 calls and 36,700 passengers, according to Captain Haluk Sayman, manager of marketing and business development for Alanya Cruise Port.
Earlier this year, Alanya broke its previous record for the largest cruise to dock, when the Costa Magica called with 2,575 passengers onboard on Feb. 15.
Also during this past winter, the Norwegian Jade called every three weeks, from October 2012 to April 2013.
Other scheduled callers in 2013 include the Costa Mediterranea with six calls. Holland America Line’s Prinsendam and Rotterdam will make their maiden calls in November.
