Busy Hours for Hurtigruten

Hurrtigruten has had a few busy hours the last couple of days with the Kong Harald running aground at the mouth of the Trollfjorden and the Richard With being delayed by extreme weather.

With 258 passengers and 57 crew onboard, the Kong Harald ran aground at midnight local time Monday, but was able to free itself on high tide after six hours.

According to local reports there was some water leakage into a forward ballast tank. There were no injuries to passengers or crew.

The ship continued to port under its own power, escorted by the Norwegian Coast Guard. The Norwegian Air Force had a rescue helicopter on stand-by.

Hurtigruten described the grounding as undramatic and said that passengers and crew were at no point in danger.

Subsequent ports of call were cancelled for both ships.
