CNN Triumph Coverage Delivers Big Ratings

CNN’s over-hyped coverage of the Carnival Triumph situation earlier this week worked out for the cable news network, delivering in the all-important ratings department.

With the ship heading for Mobile, Alabama, on Thursday night, CNN won the ratings battle against Fox News and MSNBC in the Adult 25-54 demographic for two hours.

According to numbers from MediaBistro, CNN logged 400,000 viewers in that demographic, compared to 252,000 for Fox and just 132,000 for MSNBC.

MediaBistro suggested that CNN spent up to $50,000 on the production, with ratings up 44 percent compared to the same night in 2012, compared to a 9 percent increase for Fox News, which was not covering the ship.
