To celebrate the 2013 New Year in Funchal, Madeira, the bay of Funchal was the stage of a cruise ship whistle concert, bidding farewell to 2012.
The 2012 Last Sunset Symphony, composed by Francisco Loreto, ran for eight minutes and was written for the AIDAbella, AIDAsol, P&O Azura, Queen Victoria, Thomson Majesty, a ferry and a local tugbot.
Later in the night a spectacular fireworks display over the port – packed with cruise ships – welcomed in the New Year.
