QE2 Back to the UK?

Various media reports are now suggesting after the threat of the Queen Elizabeth 2 being sold to China or scrapped, the classic vessel may be headed home to the UK as a hotel ship.

Plans call for an “ambitious” plan to berth the ship on the Thames River as a high-end hotel, avoiding sending the vessel to a questionable fate in the Far East.

Meanwhile, rumors still suggest an all-Chinese crew is now aboard the ship. The ship is officially owned by Istithmar, the investment arm of state-owned Dubai World.

Following initial talk last month, Cunard Line denied the reports of the ship being sold on its Facebook account, as it is believed there was a provision in the $100 million sale contract to Dubai not to offload the ship for a certain period of time.

However, Dubai has cancelled some 160 events scheduled onboard the QE2 as the government now considers plans of offloading the vessel, according to Arabian Business.
