The most significant cruise trend this year will be bookings made primarily on affordability, according to 41 percent of travel agents polled in a January survey by Travel Guard, a travel insurance provider.
Agents also said that no-fly cruises from local ports will become increasingly popular and feel that more people will choose a cruise based upon what is offered for multiple generations.
A majority of agents (45%) also felt that enough time has passed since the Costa Concordia incident that it will not affect bookings in 2013.
The Caribbean, Mediterranean and Alaska ranked as the most popular cruise destinations.
The overwhelming majority of cruisers (77%) are planning a six- to nine-night cruise.
