Jamaica Welcomes Increased Nonstop Seasonal Flights

  • June 29, 2012

Jamaica is set to welcome new nonstop flights and increased seasonal service from most major gateways in the United States, making it easy for travelers to experience the island’s rich and diverse cultural offerings.

This summer, Jamaica will have over 1.2 million seats, a projected increase of over 60,000 air seats compared to last year.

“We continue to work with our travel partners to enhance airlift to the destination, allowing us to remain competitive in the travel industry,” said Jamaica’s Director of Tourism, John Lynch. “The variety of special charters and regular nonstop flights will encourage repeat visitors, especially as Jamaica celebrates its 50th Anniversary of Independence.”

A selection of summer flights includes:

•  Caribbean Airlines/Air Jamaica introduced a new flight from Orlando to Kingston which operates twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, available through December. The airline offers daily flights from New York (JFK) and Fort Lauderdale to Kingston and Montego Bay.

•  American Airlines adds a new daily flight from Miami to Kingston, through August 20 and resumes service from Chicago to Montego Bay through August 18 on Saturdays and Sundays. Daily service is also being offered from Dallas to Montego Bay, through August 22.

•  Apple Vacations resumes service from Chicago to Montego Bay on Thursdays and Sundays, through August 16.

•  Apple/Funjet Vacations adds a new service from Dallas to Montego Bay on Mondays and Fridays, through August 10, and from St. Louis to Montego Bay once a week on Saturdays, through August 4, and Wednesdays, through August 8.

•  Continental Airlines commenced a new flight from Houston to Montego Bay on Saturdays, available through July. The airline resumes its seasonal service from Newark to Montego Bay with five weekly flights in July and daily flights offered in August.

•  JetBlue Airlines launched two new daily flights from Fort Lauderdale to Kingston, through December. It resumes daily service from New York (JFK) to Kingston, through September 9, and to Montego Bay, through September 10.

•  Sunwing Airlines introduced new weekly charters from Nashville to Montego Bay on Sundays, ending on July 15, and from Cincinnati to Montego Bay on Saturdays, through October 27.

•  U.S. Airways’ new flight from Charlotte to Montego Bay operates on Saturdays and is offered through August 25. It will add a second daily flight from Philadelphia to Montego Bay until September 4, and has a scheduled weekly flight on Saturdays from Washington D.C. to Montego Bay, through July.
