Sponsored by Carnival Cruise Lines, the American Cancer Society is sending 25 Miami-Dade kids with cancer to Camp Boggy Creek in Eustis, Fla. The campers, ages 7-16, and their families will meet at Carnival headquarters for breakfast and fun activities before boarding a bus to spend a week at the American Cancer Society’s R.O.C.K. (Reaching Out to Cancer Kids) Camp. Founded in 1976, R.O.C.K. Camp was the first summer camp created for children with cancer in the United States.
In addition to breakfast, the campers will be treated to face painting, crafts, a parrot encounter courtesy of Zoo Miami, music from a DJ and special guests Carnival Cruise Lines President and CEO Gerry Cahill and Carnival mascot Fun Ship Freddy.
As part of Carnival Foundation’s local philanthropic efforts, Carnival Cruise Lines is sponsoring the trip to R.O.C.K Camp for all 55 kids from Miami-Dade and Broward counties. They will join more than 100 youths from around Florida for a week of exciting activities that enable them to experience the fun and adventure of summer camp. (Broward is holding a separate sendoff party at ACS’s Fort Lauderdale office.)
