Royal Caribbean 15th Annual G.I.V.E. Day to Assist Tanganyika Wildlife Park

More than 140 volunteers from Royal Caribbean Cruises  will spend this Saturday, April 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. cleaning, planting and handling other projects at Tanganyika Wildlife Park as part of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.’s 15th annual “G.I.V.E. Day.”

G.I.V.E., which stands for “Get Involved, Volunteer Everywhere,” is a community service event that brings together Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Club Cruises employees, their families and friends to assist non-profit organizations and improve the quality of life in their local communities. The volunteers will help prepare the wildlife park for its summer season, assisting the park’s small staff with such laborious tasks as erecting fences, laying sod, cleaning animal enclosures and tackling other landscaping projects in the wildlife park.

Tanganyika is a non-profit specialty zoo that takes pride in educating the public about endangered species, while increasing the population of certain species through quality breeding programs. At the park, visitors may find themselves face-to-face with a kangaroo, have a giraffe eating out of their hand, or look up to a ring-tailed lemur on their shoulder – experiences designed to make every visit memorable.

“Our company is committed to supporting and helping the communities in which we live and work,” said Mike Semler, Director of Trade Support & Services, Royal Caribbean. “We hope the personal satisfaction and fun of assisting our neighbors on G.I.V.E. Day will help inspire our participants to pursue volunteer and public service opportunities throughout the year.”

Now in its 15th year, G.I.V.E. Day is an example of how the more than 40,000 Royal Caribbean employees give back to their communities around the world, by donating thousands of volunteer hours to assist their communities with neighborhood development, civic drives, environmental improvement and disaster recovery. Similar G.I.V.E. Day events are also being planned for and will take place in Wichita, Kansas; Anchorage, Alaska; Seattle, Washington; Springfield, Oregon, United Kingdom, Germany and other international offices.
