The new China Cruise venture may have more to the story than originally as rumored by Cruise Industry News earlier this month.
Chinese media reports cited Stanley Ho as the owner of the China Star, the ex-Radisson Diamond.
However, that appears to be incorrect, along with the price paid for the ship (reported at $45 million), and estimates of a $20 million refurbishment.
Instead, a source told Cruise Industry News that the drydocking time was simply to upgrade the ship’s interior following an 18-month lay-up, and complete various mechanical work, and that the news, rumors and numbers coming from China were “greatly exaggerated.”
A second source mentioned that the effort was far from a Chinese cruise line, yet, with neither the company or ship registered in China, with the line still waiting for various permits from Chinese goverment authorities.
