The historic Merchant Marine vessel S.S. Lane Victory will relocate from its current location at Berth 94 at the Cruise Ship Promenade to Berth 46, just south of Cabrillo Way Marina, where it will remain for approximately nine months.
The move is being made to accommodate construction and wharf expansion at the nearby berths. During the move, the ship will be closed to all visitors from Saturday, February 4, to Sunday, February 12. The ship will re-open to the public on Monday, February 13.
Berth 46 is located south of the intersection at 22nd and Miner streets. Public access to the dock can be reached by driving south to the 2500 block of Miner Street, to the terminal gate. Free parking is available past the gate, near the dock.
The S.S. Lane Victory will relocate to Berth 50 in the Port’s East Channel after improvements are completed at that berth later this year. A permanent location for the vessel has not yet been determined.
Built in Los Angeles in 1945, the S.S. Lane Victory served with distinction during World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War, and during times of peace as part of the merchant fleet. After years of deterioration, volunteers of the United States Merchant Marine Veterans of World War II restored the vessel to its original condition. Now a nationally recognized historic landmark, the S.S. Lane Victory now serves as a museum and memorial to the service and sacrifices of all Merchant Marine sailors and Navy Armed Guardsmen.
