Fincantieri Gains Ship Order from P&O

Fincantieri has gained an order from the US cruise operator Carnival to build a cruise ship  of 141,000 gross tonnes due to serve the British brand P&O Cruises.

Scheduled to enter service in March 2015, the ship will have a maximum passenger capacity of 3,611 and is set to be the flagship of P&O Cruises fleet, as well as being the largest to be built for the British market.

Incorporating the highest technological standards, the ship, which has yet to be named, will feature a stylish and innovative new design in keeping with her majestic proportions. Moreover, there will be an unprecedented range of entertainment and facilities on offer on board.

The top levels of comfort provided to lucky passengers on board the new ship will reflect the “best of the best” characteristic of P&O, whose cruises are enjoyed by highly discriminating customers from one of the world’s most dynamic markets.

Commenting on the announcement of the new order, Fincantieri CEO, Giuseppe Bono, said: “This order shows that the company, even in a difficult moment as today, is resolutely continuing its commitment in a particularly depressed market in order to gain whatever orders there might be, thus holding on to its position as world leader.”
