Cruiseport Boston opened the 2011 cruise season on April 14 with a port of call visit by ocean liner Princess Danae, the ship’s first ever visit to the Port of Boston. The cruise season gets into full swing in late May when home-based ships begin sailing from Cruiseport Boston to Bermuda and ports in Canada & New England.
This year, Norwegian Cruise Line’s newer and larger ship Norwegian Dawn replaces Norwegian Spirit which began sailing out of Boston to Bermuda in 2009. Norwegian Dawn is 10 percent larger than Norwegian Spirit and is the third upgrade by Norwegian in just four years.
Also this year, Cruiseport Boston reaches a new milestone when it celebrates its 25th Anniversary. In 1986 Cruiseport Boston opened with just 13 cruise ship visits and a total of 11,723 passengers. In 2011, 106 ships are scheduled to carry more than 300,000 passengers in and out of the terminal.
