The Costa Crociere Group has reported revenues of 2.9 billion euro for its fiscal year 2010, up from 2.6 billion in 2009, for a 12 percent increase. The company also reported carrying 2.2 million passengers for a total of 16.8 million passenger cruise days in 2010, compared to 1.8 million passengers and 14.5 million passenger cruise days in 2009. The Costa group, which is owned by Carnival Corporation, includes Costa Crociere, AIDA Cruises and IberoCruceros.
Given the difficult economic circumstances, Costa Chairman and CEO Pier Luigi Foschi described the results as outstanding in a prepared statement. He said the group was able to increase its passenger numbers by 18 percent compared to 10 percent for European industry at large.
As of March 2011, the group had 25 ships in service – 14 for Costa, seven for AIDA and four for IberoCruceros. The newest ship, the AIDAsol, entered service this month. The Costa Favolosa will join the fleet in June.
