Port of Los Angeles Responds to Tsunami Advisory

The Port of Los Angeles is taking precautionary measures throughout the Port of Los Angeles complex in response to the tsunami advisory issued after a major earthquake struck Japan.

As a precaution, the Port of Los Angeles has temporarily suspended cargo operations as of 8 a.m. Pacific Standard Time.

Los Angeles Port Police have been working with marina operators and residents advising them of the tsunami advisory. Recreational boat owners have been advised to secure their boats. Cabrillo Beach and Royal Palms Beach have been closed to the public as a precaution. Additionally, no fishermen or others will be allowed on or near the breakwater.

A tsunami advisory means that a tsunami capable of producing strong currents or dangerous waves could occur. Significant inundation is not expected for areas under an advisory.
