Peru, the fastest growing country in Latin America and the Caribbean (surpassing even Brazil according to major international rating agencies), will appeal to all players in the port industry to attend the XX AAPA Latin American Ports Congress on June 22/24.

This event is particularly relevant for Peru which has recorded unprecedented economic boom. This Congress has received strong support from the main transportation and infrastructure Peruvian policymakers who have expressed their commitment and unanimous support to an activity that will showcase Peru in the international maritime and port industry.

A Supreme Resolution signed by the President of Peru, Alan Garcia Perez (and countersigned by the Chairman of the Council of Ministers, the Minister of Transport and Communications, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru), highlights the importance of this Congress in promoting dialogue among the world’s port leaders.

The recitals of said Resolution state that “holding this Congress is an opportunity for Peru to display and disseminate, among the visiting delegations, the achievements accomplished in developing ports nationwide, and particularly in modernizing the Port of Callao as the First Peruvian Port”

Peru was chosen to host the XX Congress during the AAPA Spring Conference held in Washington DC., USA in March 2010, in which the Chairman of the Board of ENAPU S.A., Mario Arbulú, participated as Director. Mr. Arbulú was also responsible for officially announcing such designation during the XIX Latin American Ports Congress held in Manta, Ecuador, in July 2010.

This election, submitted to the opinion of port industry leaders in Latin America, entails the recognition of the leadership of the Port of Callao within the region, and is an excellent opportunity to promote its consolidation as Hub Port for the West Coast of South America.

ENAPU S.A. is a corporate member of the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) which brings together over 500 members representing the alliance of ports in the Western Hemisphere.

Among the goals of the Association are to promote the interests of the port community and to lead dialogue on issues such as foreign trade, sea/river transportation, safety and security, environment, and issues related to port development and operations.
