For the first time, member travel agents of Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) will be able to pursue professional development through CLIA training and Certification programs while working toward a university degree at the same time.
CLIA and University of Phoenix have signed an articulation agreement allowing agents to transfer applicable CLIA Certification and training credits to be assessed toward elective credits when studying for their associate or bachelor’s degree with University of Phoenix.
“The agreement with University of Phoenix represents an exciting milestone in CLIA’s commitment to help its agent members pursue professional development in its broadest context,” said Bob Sharak, CLIA’s executive vice president. “Not only can our members continue to expand their knowledge of cruising and hone their sales skills through an expansive variety of CLIA Certification programs, they can apply much of that work toward achieving a university degree at the same time,” he added.
Thirty-four CLIA online and classroom Certification and training courses may be combined and assessed for full or partial credit towards University of Phoenix associate and bachelor’s degree requirements.
Sharak noted that the growth and popularity of both domestic and international travel has broadened opportunities for professionals in the sector. “Through this agreement, CLIA agents now have a value-added component enabling them to earn their degree with University of Phoenix – even while working in the fast-paced, rapidly changing and increasingly complex world of tourism. We are pleased to bring our members this opportunity to further develop their professional knowledge and the subsequent opportunities which can arise through academic growth,” he said.
