Jamaica was named Top Destination of the Year – Caribbean for 2010 by Expedia, Inc., finishing ahead of 24 other Caribbean islands. The presentation took place at Iberostar Rose Hall Suites in Montego Bay on January 15, prior to this year’s Caribbean Marketplace. On hand to accept the award were Jamaica’s Tourism Director John Lynch; Deputy Director of Tourism, Sales, Donnie Dawson; and Regional Director, Airlines and Tour Operators Anthony King.

Jamaica won the award based on a number of factors, including room night production. In 2010, Jamaica’s bookings through Expedia increased by 26 percent over 2009. Expedia sales of packaged room nights in Jamaica made the destination the leader in this market also, with a 70-percent market share for the region, representing an increase of 30 percent over the previous year. The destination is an affiliate partner and creative global marketing partner of Expedia, and was credited with running the first expandable campaign in the region.

Jamaica’s Director of Tourism John Lynch is pleased that the partnership has reaped such rewards for Jamaica. “We’re excited that our relationship with Expedia has sparked significant benefits for both brands, and look forward to continued growth in 2011 through this valued partnership.”

Two Jamaican hotel partners also walked away with awards: Grand Palladium for Top Room Night Producer – Caribbean and SuperClubs for Top Partner Chain – Caribbean.
