AIDA Cruises is commissioning its eighth so-called club ship next year, the AIDAsol, which will be christened at a ceremony in Kiel on April 9, and sails her maiden voyage to Northern Europe.

At 71,100 tons, the AIDAsol provides ample space for new attractions, fresh designs and innovative ideas, according to AIDA, including a 3D movie theater.

The interior design of the AIDAsol will feature light, Mediterranean colors. The walls of the Theatrium, the heart of the ship, will be decorated with bright wooden profiles and classic silver leaf. Honey-colored Belinga parquet and tiles in a modern, fresh green color will form the figure of a neutron on the floor in front of the moving stage. There will be two staircases over 40 meters high. The front staircase will be formed using different size metal plates floodlit with colored light, producing a 3D effect. The rear staircase will presents a three-dimensional pattern with depth effect created by irregular sections in the form of spherical triangles, according to a press release from AIDA.

Claiming to have the largest fitness and wellness facility of any cruise ship, it will cover an area of 2,602 square meters and also have a Mediterranean flair. Mural paintings in different shades of blue on white walls, classic sculptures, decorative tile mosaics, large amphorae and elaborately draped fabrics are designed to give the visitor the impression of being on a Greek island.

In the Wellness Oasis, intended to be an “island landscape” with an adjoining conservatory, guests will be able to relax under a six-meter high olive tree. The glass roof spanning the oasis can be opened in fine weather. There are 14 treatment rooms where the spa staff will pamper guests with a wide variety of wellness treatments. In addition is an exclusive Wellness Suite with its own sauna, heated water bed, Jacuzzi and separate balcony where guests can enjoy individual relaxation and treatments with ocean views.

On the culinary side will be seven restaurants: The Bella Donna Restaurant will offer foods from all regions of Italy, while the East Restaurant will feature Asian specialties. The California Grill will serve up burger and wrap creations, grilled steaks and salads around the clock.  The Market Restaurant concept found on all of AIDA’s ships will offer multiple stations with fruits and vegetables, hams and cold meat specialties, as well as around 80 different types of cheeses. Dishes will be prepared fresh in front of the guests.  Varieties of smoked fish will come straight out of the ship’s own smokehouse with its glass smoking oven, something that is only available on AIDA’s new ships.

In the Brewery Bar, draft beer is brewed from purified sea water.

Guests will also be able to dine a la carte in the Rossini, Buffalo Steak House and Sushi Bar restaurants.

AIDAsol will also have a total of 12 bars and a bar menu with 270 different drinks. The signature star-shaped AIDA Bar will have shades of purple and orange on the AIDAsol. Fine wines are served up by the Vinothek, the ship’s wine bar, and the Sol Bar. The Pier 3 Bar is located on Deck 3 near the gates to the tenders. Café Mare will offer coffee and chocolate creations. The Beach Bar will have airy fabric canopies, while the Anytime Bar will offer views of the ocean through glass walls. There will also be a pool bar; the Time Out Bar will be in the Theatrium; and the Body & Soul Spa Bar in the Wellness area.

The cabins on AIDAsol are designed in bright colors and natural materials as on the other AIDA ships.

Art will include impressionistic works by photographers Thomas Zika and Patrick Brandt. Work by other international artists such as Tim Davies, Feliks Büttner, Robert Nippoldt and Malte Brekenfeld will decorate the Bella Donna Restaurant and the 18 suites onboard, while paintings by New York artist, James Rizzi, will be seen in the five spa suites. A further highlight among the large number of works of art onboard will be found on the sun deck, where the sculptor and concept artist Otmar Hörl will have two sculptures.

The AIDAsol will have a total of 1,097 passenger cabins, including 18 suites, five spa suites. There will be 453 standard balcony cabins, 34 spa balcony cabins, 212 outside cabins and 375 inside cabins.
