Holland America Line has appointed Bill Morani vice president, Safety and Environmental Management Systems, creating a department that merges Environmental Management Systems with Safety/Training and Regulatory Compliance. Morani previously was vice president, Environmental Management Systems, for five years and will now report to Dan Grausz, senior vice president, fleet operations. 

“Bill Morani has done an excellent job of transforming our environmental compliance programs into environmental management systems,” said Grausz. “That has enabled Holland America Line to focus on the continuous improvement of our operations, which now will include our safety programs.” 

Morani came to Holland America Line after a distinguished 28-year career in the U.S. Coast Guard, retiring as a captain. As deputy director and then acting director, he oversaw the activities of the Coast Guard’s National Maritime Center and its subordinate commands. Morani also held senior leadership positions as chief, marine safety and security division for the Second Coast Guard District and commanding officer and captain of the Port for the Marine Safety Office in Louisville. During his career in the Coast Guard, Morani became recognized as one of the most experienced marine accident investigators.

A graduate of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Morani holds master’s degrees in systems management and public administration as well as bachelor of science degrees in marine transportation and nautical science.

Holland America Line also named retired U.S. Coast Guard Captain Michael D. Inman as director, systems management and program development. He reports to Morani.

Inman joins Holland America Line after completing 30 years of service in the Coast Guard. He is responsible for updating and enhancing the premium line’s safety, health and environmental programs.

For the past three years, Inman was chief operating officer of the Response Division of the 17th Coast Guard District, an area that included Alaska and covered more than 3.8 million square miles of ocean and 33,000 miles of coastline.  He had oversight responsibilities for the Coast Guard’s second-largest aviation command, two medium-size field commands and a significant number of Coast Guard ships patrolling throughout the North Pacific.

“Michael Inman brings a wealth of knowledge about search and rescue and environmental response activities, gained during his most recent Coast Guard position,” said Bill Morani, vice president, safety and environmental management systems. “He worked with Holland America Line staff during its 2009 Emergency Response Exercise conducted in cooperation with the Coast Guard and several other agencies. We are glad to have him join our team.”

Inman moves from Juneau, Alaska, to Holland America Line’s Seattle headquarters to assume his new position. He holds a bachelor’s degree in marine science from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and a master’s degree in telecommunications systems management from the Naval Postgraduate School.
