T.Mariotti Delivered Seabourn Sojourn (photo)

  • June 1, 2010

T.Mariotti shipyard, a leader in the field of ultra luxury shipbuilding, has delivered the new vessel “Seabourn Sojourn” to Seabourn Cruise Line. It is the second of three sister-ships ordered for 550 million Euros by Seabourn, the luxury brand of Miami-based Carnival Corporation & PLC. The new vessel, twin to Seabourn Odyssey delivered in 2009, is an example of excellence in small and medium-size shipbuilding, at 32000 GRT. Sojourn is 198m long, 26m wide and reaches a maximum speed of over 20 knots.

The newest Seabourn yacht accommodates just 450 guests in 225 luxury suites, offering the highest space per guest ratio in the Industry. Furthermore, a unique detail for a vessel of that size is the addition of a marina on the stern that lowers directly to the sea.

Like all the Ultra Luxury Cruiseships signed by T.Mariotti, Seabourn Sojourn is powered with the latest technology, especially the Safety Management System Control, a computerized system to manage all aspects of safety, and an Independent Propulsion System – two duplicate Engine Rooms and drive systems guaranteeing safe travel in case of emergency.

The high level of technology is indicated even by the quantity of electric cabling installed for automation. At 80km, it is about 75 percent of the average amount on a ship of 110.000 GRT (Seabourn Sojourn is 32.000 GRT).

The refined newbuilding design by architects Yran and Storbraaten produces an elegant Green Ship, conceived to protect the environment while offering superb levels of comfort and safety on board. Green Star is the highest rating for ships employing advanced wastewater treatment technology to minimize pollution and protect the air and sea environment.

Safety is assured by complete compliance to SOLAS 2009 even though the first of the three vessels was laid in 2007.

Seabourn Sojourn is certified Green Star, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Public Health. The hull of Seabourn Sojourn was built at Ci.Mar Costruzioni Navali at San Giorgio di Nogaro (Northeast Italy)- a company owned 50 percent by T.Mariotti and 50 percent by the Cimolai Group – then towed around the coast of Italy to Genova-based T.Mariotti building site for outfitting and final completion. .

“The delivery of Seabourn Sojourn – Marco Bisagno President of T.Mariotti said – marks the strength of the team spirit among Carnival Corporate Shipbuilding, Seabourn and T.Mariotti; a cooperation started in 2006 that has since achieved high levels of efficiency and concord, which may be recognized in the quality of the vessel we delivered today”.

“We are very pleased to take delivery of Seabourn Sojourn, whose first guests are eagerly awaiting her arrival in England to be named and start her Maiden Voyage,“ said Pamela C. Conover, Seabourn’s president and CEO. “ We thank the men and women of T. Mariotti for building us a beautiful vessel that will enable us to serve our guests in the finest style.”
