The Carnival Dream was christened in New York in fun-ship style by award-winning actress Marcia Gay Harden as godmother, amply assisted by cruise director John Heald and Captain Carlo Queirolo. The 130,000-ton, 3,600-passenger Dream was built by Fincantieri and entered service in September, sailing in the Mediterranean before coming across. She will sail a two-day cruise and two eight-cruises from New York before repositioning to her homeport Port Canaveral from where she will be sailing year-round seven-day cruises.
The Dream is the largest Carnival ship ever built and features a series of unique designs by Joe Farcus, including a new Promenade Deck (5) café and entertainment venue called Ocean Plaza; 19,000 square feet dedicated to children’s facilities, including expansive play areas and a huge Carnival WaterWorks aqua park with the longest water slide at sea; whirlpools that extend over the sides of the ship; a two-level adults-only retreat; a 23,750-square-foot spa; and a variety of stateroom categories, including two-bath, five-berth cabins intended for families.
The décor colors are bright and cheery throughout.
In conjunction with the christening, Carnival also presented a new production show called Dancin’ in the Streets, which got a standing ovation.
