Caribbean Up 9%
Caribbean cruise capacity is forecast to be up 9 percent in 2010, compared to 2009, according to Cruise Industry News. In 2010, the Caribbean fleet will be able to carry 7.4 million passengers, compared to 6.7 million this year. The report breaks down the capacity by brand and passenger source origin. The winter seasons 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 are also compared for the major operators.
LR Technology Day
Lloyd’s Register recently hosted its Technology Day in New York, going through the many challenges as well as opportunities that shipping and the cruise industry face.
Rule Changes

Costly Changes
Executives at the Finnish engineering firm Foreship and STX product development and innovation outline the pros and cons of the many environmental regulations affecting the industry and point to new solutions.
And there is more: The Dow Jones is up and so are the cruise stocks; the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism says its land offering cannot compete with the cruise ships; Star Cruises Limited has changed its name to Genting of Hong Kong; CruiseOne and Cruises Inc. are the second agency groups to launch land divisions; Pullmantur Cruises is sailing from Cartagena and Cozumel; Costa is chartering the Allegra to French tour operator TMR for a series of Paquet cruises next spring.
