For Carnival Dream (hull 6151), built at Fincantieri Monfalcone, Navalimpianti Tecnimpianti has projected, designed, fabricated and delivered the:

• 1 Fixed Outboard Launching Systems (FOLS) for Lifeboats and Tenders and Telescopic Davits for Rescue Boats and Life Rafts, in particular

• 29 Fixed Outboard Launching Systems (FOLS) with hydraulic winch suitable for partially enclosed lifeboats, each for a capacity of 150 persons

• 1 Fixed Outboard Launching System (FOLS) with hydraulic winch suitable for partially enclosed cruise tender/lifeboat for a capacity of 150 persons

• 2 Telescopic Rescue Hydraulic Davits with electric winch suitable for Rescue Boats, each for a capacity of 6 persons

• 8 Telescopic Electric Davits (type GDET) with electric winch suitable for Life Rafts, each for a capacity of 35 persons

• 2 Telescopic Electric Davits (type GDETS) with electric winch suitable for Life Rafts, each for a capacity of 35 persons

Main Characteristics of Fixed Outboard Launching System (Life and Tender Boats)

This fixed launching system type is designed in conjunction with a particular ship’s design that allows to install the boats in a fixed position outboard below the protrusion of deck 5. The launching systems are of fixed type since the boats are directly launched and recovered from their stowed position without any travelling movement.

Each fixed launching system is designed for semi-enclosed tender boats or lifeboats of 150 persons and it is dimensioned to launch the boat fully manned (full load condition) from the deck level to the water, in all conditions stated for the ship abandon by the rules.

Each fixed launching system set mainly includes two fixed arms and one hydraulic winch with relevant fittings, signals and the electric cabinet, one double pulley block under deck and the marine fittings. Each arm consists of a fixed structure connected to the deck on which are installed all hanging and reeving pulleys and of course the securing mechanism of the blocks. The system also includes the lashing system, the winch’s remote control and the anti-rolling system of the boats. The winches are installed outboard along a structural strong catwalk built in the ship structure and positioned in the service spaces between the boats. In front of the winches, below deck 5 it is installed the double pulley block.

The fixed arm consists of a strong beam connected in two points to the longitudinal structures of the upper deck. This arm supports both the pulleys hanging the lower block and the reeving pulley. At the rear top of the fixed arm it is installed the adjusting turnbuckle with the wedge socket of the fixed end of the fall. At the side of each beam it is installed the supporting structure of the lashing and anti-rolling device with the service platform

Main Characteristics of Rescue Boat Davit System

The davit consists of one telescopic arm with one electric winch. The davit arm is divided in the fixed frame and in the trolley beam. The fixed frame is connected to the ship’s structure and it supports the trolley beam on which it is bolted directly the winch on the rear part. The trolley beam is moved by the hydraulic cylinder always fed by the stored power system through the distribution valve of the control stand. When the trolley arm is fully extended, the davit is ready to operate as a normal gravity davit. When fully hoisted, the rescue id fastened to the trolley beam by a suitable cradle with tree guides suitably shaped.

Rescue Boat Local Hydraulic System: the hydraulic system is intended to operate the trolley arm by means of one hydraulic stored power source always available from any other power supply of the ship. This power is stored inside one hydraulic accumulator pressurized by one or two nitrogen bottles.

There are two independent electric systems: one for the electric winch and one for the hydraulic traveling system.
