Windstar Cruises, which operates a three-ship fleet of luxury yachts that explore hidden harbors and secluded coves of the world’s most treasured destinations, announces the appointment of Huib van Leeuwen as Vice President Marine Operations reporting to Nico Corbijn, Executive Vice President of Fleet Operations.

In his new role, van Leeuwen will be responsible for all technical, deck and engine operations of Windstar’s three ships: 312-guest Wind Surf, 148-guest Wind Star and 148-guest Wind Spirit. The position was created when Windstar elected to take over technical operations and shipboard management from V. Ships Leisure.

“We are thrilled to welcome Huib to the Windstar team,” said Nico Corbijn, Executive Vice President, Windstar Cruises. “His extensive knowledge of the Windstar ships and many years of technical experience will be an asset to the company and play a major role with the transition of the technical operations to the Seattle office.”

Van Leeuwen brings 25 years of marine technical experience to Windstar. For the past 10 years, he was Marine Superintendent for Holland America Line managing several Holland America Line ships and the Windstar ships when they were owned by Holland America Line. Prior to that, he held positions at Elliott Bay Design Group, a naval architecture and marine engineering firm, Grasso International, Todd Shipyards and Foss Maritime. Van Leeuwen has also sailed as an engineer on four Holland America Line ships and on cargo ships from the Netherlands.
