Adventure Canada Firsts

  • May 1, 2009

Adventure Canada will be sailing the Northwest Passage this summer for the first time in the company’s 22-year history, with the company’s newest ship, the 120-passenger Clipper Adventurer. “She will begin in Resolute, Cornwallis Island, through the heart of the Passage, following the Canadian mainland out toward the edge of the Beaufort Sea,” said Clayton Anderson, manager, marketing development. “We will be offering Northwest Passage sailings in 2010 as well, and hope to even improve upon them.” The line is also planning a circumnavigation of Tasmania in 2011, Anderson said, but plans were not finalized at press time. Anderson pointed out that the Adventurer, which Adventure Canada began chartering from International Shipping Partners last month, is “a big upgrade from our other ships, in that it has more class and style than your typical expedition ship; it’s been well looked after.” (In 1998 the Adventurer underwent a $13 million refurbishment.) Anderson added that he is looking into chartering additional ships next year, as “it’s becoming more of a charterer’s market these days, and owners really need to get their vessels moving.”
