Imtech (technical services provision in Europe) has received an order from Meyer Werft, a German ship wharf based in Papenburg, for the energy-saving climate technology on board a Solstice-class cruise ship.
This yet-to-be-built, new cruise ship will be delivered to its owner, Celebrity Cruises, in the autumn of 2012.
This order will mark the fifth Solstice-class cruise ship that Imtech has been involved with. The total order intake for Imtech of these five ships represents a value of approximately 83 million euro. Ships of this class have an average length of about 315 metres, a width of about 37 metres, a passenger capacity of around 2,850 people and a maximum speed of 24 knots.

Imtech (Imtech Marine Group, the German business unit Imtech Schiffbau-/Dockbautechnik) will equip the ship with energy-saving heating and climate technology (HVAC, Heating Ventilation & Air Conditioning). Applying special technology – including intelligent process control, consistent use of decentralised energy supplies and special Imtech technology (which includes high-tech cooling, induction and cabin units, as well as special energy-saving connection systems), make it possible to reduce energy use by approximately 25%.
The Imtech solutions are also low maintenance and saves weight.
Strong position in the cruise ship market Imtech is one of the strongest technological players in Europe on board cruise ships, where the focus is on sustainability and energy-savings.
From the start of development of the Solstice class, Imtech has filled a prominent role, working on all the cruise ships in this class.
The first ship, the ‘Celebrity Solstice’ was proclaimed by the prominent HANSA International Maritime Journal in March of 2009 as ‘Ship of the year, 2008’.
Recently, the second ship in the Solstice class, the ‘Celebrity Equinox’, was delivered to owner Celebrity Cruises. Imtech played important role delivering technology solutions on the third and fourth ships as well. At the moment, Imtech is also working on two other new cruise ships at Meyer Werft in Papenburg; ships almost 350 metres long, which will be delivered in 2011 and 2012. In addition, Imtech was recently involved with various cruise ships at the Italian shipyard Fincantieri and the French shipyard Chantiers de l’Atlantique.
